My TNT

Sometimes sewing can be a bit aggravating. Lately, I've been wanting to see some results and whip some garments out. Well, whoever is in charge was just messing with me and messing with me. I started on Simplicity 1622, and I purchased this beautiful orange fabric and the orange and gray chiffon for a tunic to go with it. Well, lets just say JoAnn's bet not sell me anymore dreams, this fabric is absolute terribleness.
I was doing the maxi and the tunic.

Now, I started the maxi and tunic, made the muslin and got busy. First off, the tunic was a bad choice for me. I'm too short, my arms are too small, it was not working well. My mom is a veteran seamstress so she fixed it up and we got it to a point where it looked nice on me. The maxi, well that was easy, I already have a dress muslin, so that took no time to put together I was really looking forward to my outfit. As I started to sew up my maxi muslin, tragedy struck and it just kept on striking.
The original material for 1622.
Now this is where JoAnn Fabrics comes in to play. I purchased the fabric from there and from first, second, even third glance it seems like your normal knit and chiffon. BUT HONESTLY, This was the knit from hell. It began to unravel, YES unravel and the more I sewed the arm wholes and the neck it kept unraveling. We added interfacing, all types of products BUT it wouldn't do right, then as my mom was trying to serge it, her serger caught on and snagged a hole in it. I was feeling ALL types of ways.

WHY LAWD, WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I decided right then and there I needed a easy, throw together project to get my head back in the GAME! I needed some results.

This fabric was orignally purchased with this dress in mind. I wanted to make a short flowing dress with sleeves but I used it to recreate a maxi. I'm allowed to do that too so no side eyes! In about 4 hours I had a full length maxi dress, and man, I was too proud. I got so many compliments on the dress and I felt beautiful in it.

Betty wearing that thang!

So, now I got my mojo back and soon enough the orange maxi will be fixed and all is right again in my world. Lawd haff mercy sewing can raise your blood sometimes!!

Oh How I love Lace!!! Review of Vogue 8713

So recently I made a vest. Here's a little background about the vest. Its a Vogue pattern number 8713. The reason I picked it is because it said EASY across the top. Ummmm......I guess it was. So here it goes.

Pattern Description: Misses Vest

Pattern Sizing: 16-24

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes it did!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I think putting it together was kind of challenging because you couldn't see which way the vest was going at one point.

Fabric Used: I used lace and a contrast of denim.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Just the contrast of fabrics!

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? No, I personally wouldn't because it was kind of difficult. I would recommend though because it looks great on!

Conclusion: I am pleased with the final result. I might sew again once I get some more skills. If it wasn't for my mom’s help I would have been lost.
Got to have a muslin!

The Back!
The front!
I am so happy another project under my belt. Now if I can finish this dress for my Friday evening I will be doing the damn thing! Go MEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

McCall's 6612 Review

YIPEEEE!!!! I finally completed something! Take a look. McCall's 6612.

Pattern Description: This was a fairly easy knit dress. I choose a short version of View D

Pattern Sizing: 18w-24w

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes they really were

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I always make sure I get enough fabric. I always get a little extra but even with my extra it wasn’t enough for the collar. So my mom did the collar and had to improvise.

Fabric Used: Jersey Knit

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I started with a muslin, because I have rounded shoulders I cut the back into two pieces instead of cutting it on the fold. I also added more in the butt region.

Would you sew it again? Yes, it was very easy and makes a great dress. Would you recommend it to others? Yes I would

Conclusion: I love this dress and got some great compliments on it. I will be making another one, just make sure to get a little extra because the collar is huge!!
Sooo very proud!
I love this dress. It is a great fabric and a perfect go to dress. I wore it to dinner at a casual seafood restaurant. I got many compliments! I will make again, and again and again!

Snow day, sew day

So...two weeks ago the South was hit with a "Snow Storm" and MAN this was something major. We got TWO whole inches and the city was basically crippled. I have never experienced or seen ANYTHING like it. The day it started snowing it took my over 3 hours to get home. It normally takes 45 minutes. I soon decided to stop complaining because son people were stuck in their cars for over 24 hours, it's were stranded at school. It was insane. What made it worse is the fact that the Governor and Mayor got on tv blaming everyone but themselves. Georgia DO BETTER. Governor Nathan Deal and Mayor Kaisim Reed,  DO BETTER. He was standing on tv like,  Ummmmm......I didn't know.
Lol, he was though

I enjoyed my day off, but I couldn't help but worry about the people who weren't safe in their homes. Next time I just won't go to work next time.

Since we were off my mom, brother, and I decided to get some sewing done. And sew we did!
My brother Wilson is currently working on a pair of white jeans. They are coming along nicely. Here are some pics.
He's so talented.

My mom is currently working on a assortment of projects. But she recently finished this adorable gray vest. Once she pairs it up I will post some pics.

So now, my project. I am currently working on a knit dress. McCall's 6612, I am loving the fabric and in the fitting stages. The white material is my muslin and then I'll stitch up the real thing. Its going to be beautiful, just wait and see.
Love it!

Stay safe and stay warm!

Take a peak at my fall projects

My favorite season is right around the corner.  I love love love fall. There are so many pretty colors,  the temperature is cool, and the outfit ideas are endless.  Boots, sweaters, leggings,  vests, coats........ so much to choose from.  So yesterday my mom and I traveled to Norcross to a magical place called Fine Fabrics.  Now when we first pulled up, I was like what is this place,  NEVER JUDGE A "BOOK" BY IT'S COVER. Ever. Hands down this was the best fabric store I've ever been in.  Wall to wall fabrics,  more knits and lace than the law should allow.  Plus the prices were awesome,  very very affordable.  Take a look at the pics.
Yes, real fur

Who would not want green leopard

wall to wall

My mom was too happy.

I was happy too. So many possibilities......one store. I decided on two knits, one for a dress and the other for a pair of leggings. I have been wanting a pair of funky leggings for a minute so I will start those first. Here is the pattern and fabric i decided on.

Pretty and so me

I cannot wait to finish those. For the other material I want to make a basic knit dress. Just something nice to wear to work. Here it is.
I am making view d, just shorter

Well, that should keep me pretty busy. See you soon.
