McCall's 6612 Review

YIPEEEE!!!! I finally completed something! Take a look. McCall's 6612.

Pattern Description: This was a fairly easy knit dress. I choose a short version of View D

Pattern Sizing: 18w-24w

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes they really were

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I always make sure I get enough fabric. I always get a little extra but even with my extra it wasn’t enough for the collar. So my mom did the collar and had to improvise.

Fabric Used: Jersey Knit

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I started with a muslin, because I have rounded shoulders I cut the back into two pieces instead of cutting it on the fold. I also added more in the butt region.

Would you sew it again? Yes, it was very easy and makes a great dress. Would you recommend it to others? Yes I would

Conclusion: I love this dress and got some great compliments on it. I will be making another one, just make sure to get a little extra because the collar is huge!!
Sooo very proud!
I love this dress. It is a great fabric and a perfect go to dress. I wore it to dinner at a casual seafood restaurant. I got many compliments! I will make again, and again and again!

You Will Never Guess Who I Met?!?!?!

So my world is changing....... I feel like 2014 is going to be great. I'm ready.
On February 2nd, I met one of my sewing idols. (The first being my mom and grandma). Anyways, I met Mimi G!!!!! Say what,  say who. I met Mimi G of mimigstyle. She's the best. She came to Atlanta for a Meet and Greet. At A Piece of Cake at the new Collier Road location.

Yummy!

Their sweets are delish!
They had all these sweets laid out for us. And they were amazing. All these cupcakes, and cakes, and cookies. A Piece of Cake did it up. But we were all there for one thing and it wasn't the cake. We were there for Mimi G, we were there because she has inspired us to "Make it, buy it, mix it, and ROCK IT!

Mimi, she slayed in that dress!

Overall, it was a wonderful Meet and Greet, they took pictures with everyone. There was a Q&A, everyone got a chance to hug her. I think the best part was the other nice sewers a met. Its a lot of us here in GA! I have friended some nice women and made some great connections.
She was such a great spirit

Snow day, sew day

So...two weeks ago the South was hit with a "Snow Storm" and MAN this was something major. We got TWO whole inches and the city was basically crippled. I have never experienced or seen ANYTHING like it. The day it started snowing it took my over 3 hours to get home. It normally takes 45 minutes. I soon decided to stop complaining because son people were stuck in their cars for over 24 hours, it's were stranded at school. It was insane. What made it worse is the fact that the Governor and Mayor got on tv blaming everyone but themselves. Georgia DO BETTER. Governor Nathan Deal and Mayor Kaisim Reed,  DO BETTER. He was standing on tv like,  Ummmmm......I didn't know.
Lol, he was though

I enjoyed my day off, but I couldn't help but worry about the people who weren't safe in their homes. Next time I just won't go to work next time.

Since we were off my mom, brother, and I decided to get some sewing done. And sew we did!
My brother Wilson is currently working on a pair of white jeans. They are coming along nicely. Here are some pics.
He's so talented.

My mom is currently working on a assortment of projects. But she recently finished this adorable gray vest. Once she pairs it up I will post some pics.

So now, my project. I am currently working on a knit dress. McCall's 6612, I am loving the fabric and in the fitting stages. The white material is my muslin and then I'll stitch up the real thing. Its going to be beautiful, just wait and see.
Love it!

Stay safe and stay warm!

Enchantment of the Seas in January

So this past January I set sail towards the Bahamas on the Enchantment of the Seas. Its one of Royal Caribbean's cruise ships. It was my first time on their ships. After all the tomfoolery it took me to get there, whoooo I was so happy to see the boat!
Big ole boat!
Of course once you get to the Port there is security, blah, blah, blah, blah. By this time I was hot, sweaty, stinky, and my pants kept falling off, I was toooooooooo through, plus I was STARVING! I just wanted to shower, change, and drink.

Of course, I couldn't shower, change, and drink first, because on cruises you don't get your luggage right away. So, all I could do was lay funky in bed and silently scream to myself. But I did eat, and it was the BOMB!

One of my plates! Delish!
Now once I got settled and started having fun, I had a blast. I met some nice people and it was nice to see the Bahamas in January. One of my favorite people I met was my personal bartender, he gave me so many free drinks. I enjoyed his company too, nice guy.

My personal bartender
Since I've been on Carnival cruise and Royal now, I made a little comparison in my head. First off, the ships on Royal are much nicer, they are big and have nice pretty spaces. Carnival has more to do on their ships though. At times, I got bored on Royal, lot of old people on board. Carnival's dinning room was so much better than Royal's. Steak and lobster were EXTRA.......I was so annoyed at that. Royal's buffet was slamming though. It was good every night, WAY better than Carnival's. Royal's stateroom was awesome, the better of the two hands down.

Personalized fan!
Now, we were supposed to port in Coco Cay and Nassau. We only made it to Nassau. I had a great time, don't get me wrong, BUT I will never cruise in January again. EVER!!!!!! It was windy, it rained off and on, and on the way back the current was extremly strong. People were holding onto walls, falling over and WOW! My stomach was churning the last night. I decided to just go to bed and get ready for the early morning.

Overall, I had a wonderful trip. It was beautiful and a nice break from the real world. Enjoy the pics below.
