Pattern Review of McCall's 6780

Pattern Review of 6780

So this is a special post to me. I made this adorable little girls vest with one of my good friends in mind. His daughter is 4 and I wanted to make this for her. She has a 3 year old sister as well but I didn't really think of making one for her. Well, as it turns out I made it too small for the older girl so this ended up being for the 3 year old. I am still finishing the vest for the 4 year old. Things always work out so smoothly, NOT!
I am really proud of myself!
So JoAnn's had this cute faux fur on sale and I knew that was going to be for my girl. I mean its pink, how can anyone resist. Now I got a yard but all that wasn't even needed, I am in love with kids clothes now. You can do so much with so little. All in all, it took me about 3 hours to complete the vest. Check my review below.

Pattern Description:Toddler vest, top, skirt and pants

Pattern Sizing:1-2-3-4

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes I'd like to think so.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, they were so straight forward and easy.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked how quick it came together. It took me like 3 hours.

Fabric Used: Faux fur and a cotton lining.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:Nope

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes I would sew again and I would recommend to others.

Conclusion: Overall this was a great, simple, easy pattern. I had no real challenges and it came together quickly as well. I will make others like this.

Back On My Grind

I'm not one of those types of people to make resolutions. I mean I do, but my weight loss can't wait until New Year's. So, I'm back on my weight loss grind. I've been trying new recipes, tracking my food, and being more food conscious. I was able to stock up on fruits and veggies this weekend so I've been eating much better this week. So here's a look at what I've been eating.

Fluffy Cream Cheese Dip

I made a fluffy cream cheese dip to have as a snack on fruit or even cinnamon tortilla chips. Now, its much better to make your own chips but, I didn't.....next time I will.

Love my slow cooker!
So, I have a love affair with my slow cooker. I L-O-V-E it!!! Its amazing to me, I spend about ten minutes in the morning prepping some foods and when I get home, its ready. Fall is perfect for it too, because I love soups and stews when its cold out! Of course you can make so much other stuff in the Crock-Pot! I have a big Crock-Pot with a timer, then I have a little one that I make my sides in. Check this out..... I cut up and peeled three sweet potatoes, I sliced two apples, added cinnamon and a little oil to my little Crock-Pot. I cooked it on low for about 5 hours and BAM!! I had Sweet Potato Apple Bake, and it came out delicious.

I had it for breakfast with sausage and a green smoothie!
Then one morning I got up and decided to put some turkey wings in the slow cooker. I used some turkey gravy, cream of mushroom soup, chicken broth, and the turkey wings and cooked it slow for 8 hours. Man, it was good, once I got home I added some yellow rice and cooked it for another hour. Talk about fall off the bone good. I eat it again with the sweet potato apple bake and it was divine.

All in all I had a good week last week. I didn't eat out as much because I cooked most days and always had leftovers. So, yeah....I'm back on my grind.

Pattern Review: Butterick 5959

WELCOME TO FALL!!

Greetings Everyone,
I recently made me a cape. And I love it. I haven't been able to wear it yet, but its coming. I picked out the prettiest fabric from JoAnn's and when I tell you this cape is beautiful, man. I am so proud. Here's the review.

JoAnn's made me smile with this one!

Pattern Description: Misses Wrap and Cape

Pattern Sizing: LRG-XLG-XXL

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, probably better!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes for the most part

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I didn't like the collar, it was kind of confusing. Other than that this pattern rocks!

Fabric Used: A beautiful fleece. Check out the pics, you will agree.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I added to the front, I like long fronts

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I would sew this again in a heartbeat. I would recommend this cape to others. Its fast and soooooo warm!

Conclusion: I love this cape. Its my first one and I am very proud. I sat in a sewing meeting and basically completed it and finished it the next day. So, it takes about 2 hours. Its very simple and perfect for fall.

I really enjoyed this pattern, it was quick and easy. I did most of it in my ASG sewing meeting. So all in all it took me about 2 hours. I am a slow sewer though. Overall, this is great to whip up to stay warm and fashionable during the fall. I can't wait to wear it and show off.

Betty rocking the cape!

Time to fall for FALL!!!!

WOOHOO!! Fall is quickly approaching and I cannot wait. Fall is my favorite time of the year, I just cannot wait for the cool (not cold) weather. I've already purchased some fall patterns and started on some fall projects.

This is a cape I started.

I attended my first ASG sewing meeting. I am now a member and I worked on my cape during the meeting. I had a wonderful time. Great fun! Great group of ladies. My fleece I got for half off at JoAnn Fabrics. It was a good sale. I also got some great patterns on sale. McCalls, Vogue, and Butterick.

Last thing I want to talk about is my friends first sewing project. Ever since I met Jabril and he found out I could sew, he has wanted me to teach him. So, after 8 months I finally started to teach him. He picked out this colorful knit from Hancock's and decided he wanted to make a shirt. We got started but there were a lot of errors so we had to get the Master involved. In case your wondering the master is my mom (i finally finished). She came over and whipped that shirt in shape. He is really proud and I am too. Its nice to have one more person that likes to sew.

He didn't want his face showing!

Until next time!!!

Pattern Review: Simplicity 2414 (Look at me in my short skirt)

Hello Everyone.....HAPPY SEPTEMBER!!!

We are finally in the month of September and will be saying so long to summer real soon. Even though summer is ending, I am still happy because that means fall is coming. I love fall!!! I made another summer skirt though and typed up a quick review. Hope you all enjoy!

PATTERN REVIEW: SIMPLICITY 2414

Pattern Description: Misses Skirt/Pants

Pattern Sizing: 16-24

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes it did!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, once I figured out how to gather.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked the pattern, it was easy to lay out and once I figured out how to gather it was super fast.

Fabric Used: Knit, very very beautiful material.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I had a border print so I laid it out in such a way that all elements were included in the skirt.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes I would sew again, but if I did the short skirt I would add another tier. I would recommend to others.

Conclusion: In conclusion I enjoyed this pattern. I will probably make again next year but I would add some length. It came out kind of short.

Getting ready for dinner!

This skirt came together rather quickly. It was my first time gathering and my mom was a great teacher. Now, I know how to gather material and it felt great learning a new technique. Only problem is that the skirt came out so short. I am hard headed and didn't listen to my mom but yeah she was right too short. Fortunately, I have enough material to add another tier. I'm not about that booty hanging out life.

Love the material, it came out great!
Until next time, thanks for stopping by. OAN: I got the fabric online from Sew Blessed.

Pattern Review of McCall's 6960

Hello Everyone,

I recently made another shirt pattern. McCall's 6960. This was an easy shirt pattern and it came out really well. I made some minor adjustments and even added a low-high theme, instead of high-low. I detail all about it in the review.

I love this fabric.

Pattern Description: Plus size woman shirt

Pattern Sizing: Lrg-XXL (16-26)

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Ummm.... kinda I made some adjustments.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes this shirt came together rather quickly.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

Fabric Used: I used this chiffon type fabric. It's kinda see through.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I added two darts to the back and did not cut the back on the fold. Instead I added a center back seam. To make up for my rounded back. The shirt is longer in the back and shorter in the front on the pattern. Well, I wanted to be different and made it longer in the front and shorter in the back.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I would sew again. Maybe with a different type of fabric. I would recommend to others.

Conclusion: This shirt is pretty simple I had to make some minor adjustments, but overall I am pleased. The low-high thing I tried to do makes the shirt look strange on me. That's my own fault. My material is beautiful but next time it won't be a see-through shirt.

I love this material but I didn't love it in this case. My mom gave it to me. She got it from the ASG conference.

Thanks for stopping by.

So Mimi G recently relased some patterns with Simplicity. And man, there was a race to get them from sewers all over the world. If you don't know who Mimi G is she is another sewing sister with a popular diy, fashion blog. She is really great, I actually got a chance to meet her you can check that out here. Mimi G She is such a sweet woman with a great story. Very talented.

Werk!
Well my mom and I were no exception and wanted to get these patterns too. And we did....we traveled all the way to buckhead to get these patterns and we picked up the last in our size up. I felt so good. I also picked up some other Simplicity patterns, since they were on sale.

My Weekend Sewing Finds!

So this weekend I lucked up on all things sewing. I set out to Hancock's to get some more fabric for this dress I wanted to make. No go! I couldn't find the fabric anywhere so I'm going to make a skirt instead. I did however pick up some titanium scissors. I got 2 pair for $10 bucks!!!

I love purple!

I was really happy about my Saturday find. I could always use a good pair of scissors. Friday was a really good day. Hobby Lobby had Simplicity patterns 99 cents each. OoOoOoO Happy Day!!!

Who's ready? I'm ready!

So all in all, I had a pretty good weekend. I got some great Simplicity patterns. 2 pairs of scissors with a lifetime warranty. Plus I started working on Simplicity 2414 with my beautiful fabric from Sew Blessed. She has great fabric, she restocks every Sunday too. Plus fast, shipping, I am hooked.

I am making view E!

This skirt is going to be fast and easy. I LOVE the colors and pattern designs. Well, that's all, until next time!

Pattern Review of McCalls 6569

Summer isn't quite over for me folks. I just finished this swimsuit cover up and I plan on wearing it.

Pattern Description: Swimsuit and cover up pattern

Pattern Sizing: 12-14-16-18-20

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes for the most part!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes!

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I liked how easy this came together. It literally came together so quick, I couldn’t believe it was done. The only thing I didn’t like is it only came in smaller sizes.

Fabric Used: I used lace, because I’m cool like that.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I added a center back seam as I do with all my garments. Since the pattern isn’t in my size I added some inches across.

Would you sew it again?  Yes I would in a heartbeat! Would you recommend it to others? Yes, if you want a cover up.

Conclusion: Overall this was a great pattern. Easy to use, the cover up came together beautifully. I am so happy with the project. Plus my lace set it off!!

Fabric Town is the absolute Worst!!!

Hello All,

Sorry I've been M.I.A. My birthday was last week, school is back in, internet problems. BLAH BLAH. Most important thing is, I'm back!!!

So for anyone living in the Atlanta area. There isn't really a lot of places to shop for fabric. I mean we have our Hancock's and JoAnn's but those are lame. One store we do have is Fabric Town. Its located in Stock bridge, GA very decent size fabric warehouse.

Fabric Town, beware!!

My mom and I have been here before together and picked up some pretty pieces. The employees seemed helpful and kind. So Monday my mom decided to go back there. She went alone this time because I was working. Now, everywhere my mom goes she uses this ASG discount off the total because she is a member of the American Sewing Guild. The Sewing Guild has in their newsletter which stores accept the discount and Fabric Town is on that list.

My mom had her pieces cut and went to the register, when she pulled out her ASG coupon she was told she couldn't use it. HUH?!?!? So she told them she no longer wanted the purchase. Which, who can blame her?!?!?! Most people pick and choose stores based on if they can use a discount so......what happened next was nothing short of crazy.

The woman at the register told my mom that she HAD to purchase the fabric. She told her she couldn't leave the store until she did. On and on and on this woman tells my mom that she has to pay for the fabric or the police will arrest her. Now, mind you my mom isn't trying to steal the fabric she just doesn't want it anymore. So then a man emerges and follows my mom out of the store. My mom goes to open her car door and the man slams her door back closed. He yells and screams causing a major scene outside. Until bystanders approach and ask what is going on. He then tells her she can have the 10% discount.

One thing about me NO ONE MESSES WITH MY MOM. I'm sure we all feel that way. I feel like my mom is the nicest, kindest, caring woman on this Earth. She would never steal or even act a fool. When she called me and told me the story and commented on how frightened she was, I was LIVID!

This is how I felt.

I shortly called the Henry County Police. There was really nothing they could do. Then I called my little BIG brother and we were about to head down there. In the end we will never shop there again. Its not worth going to jail, hurting someone, or any of the crazy things I was thinking. I just let the owner of the shop know, people can change their mind on purchases. Your not required to buy anything at any store. Good riddance!!!

My Trip to Panama City

Hello All,

So last weekend I  spent Friday through Sunday in beautiful Panama City. I had a great time. I went with some ladies from a meetup group. Let's Do Brunch on the Southside. It was all inclusive fro $275, we had liquor, food, friends, laughs, water, and a little drama.
The scenery was wonderful.
We decided to carpool down to Panama City. I knew I didn't want to drive or take my car. So I signed up to be a rider. It was four of us in a car and we were on our way.

I've never been to Panama City, but I assumed all roads to Florida were on Interstate 75. Apparently, not, to get to Panama City we had to take Interstate 85 and then all these damn back roads in Alabama. I quickly fell asleep, I'm not about that life.

Brunchies at the beach!!
We arrived about two on Friday and the organizer of the trip said we couldn't check in until 4pm. Well let's just say the organizer of the group wasn't standing for that. Good thing too, we checked in shortly after arriving and got first dibs on the rooms and beds. I am happy about that, I did not want to share a bed with someone at all. NO! NO! NO!
Morning mimosa and breakfast!

Like I said everything was inclusive, except Saturday night dinner. So some of the ladies got up and made breakfast and it was delish! Eggs, grits, bacon, sausage, and toast. It was awesome! I am not a morning person so I didn't cook. I did clean though. I'm also the baby of the bunch so I'm spoiled.

Linda up top talking, Erica and Tajuana chilling. Look at our bar!

Friday night we fried fish and ate on the balcony. Some ladies went to the beach, but not me. I did what I do best. Relax. I drank, ate, and went to sleep. I'm so fun!!
Turn down 4 what!

Saturday morning after breakfast, all the ladies went down to the beach. Except for me. I went back to sleep. After being awoken at 7am, it was nice to have the condo to myself for some rest and relaxation. I was happy. I eventually joined the ladies at the beach though. That was fun too. I love the water, I love going to the beach and seeing the waves and feeling at peace. One thing I can't stand though is the sand. It gets everywhere. Once you take your bathing suit off, sand comes falling out of everywhere.

Tia!

Saturday night we went on a dolphin cruise. It was on a small boat. I got sick, I had a feeling I would. Luckily, I didn't throw up! Sadly, I missed the whole cruise, my eyes were closed almost the entire time. After the cruise we had dinner a Spinnakers. It was a really cool place. Lively, almost like a club. But also had a restaurant. I enjoyed myself there, except for the drama at our table. It was still a wonderful time.
Sunday morning we got up and ate our leftovers and my carpool headed out. It was a nice journey on down the road. I was ready to get home though. 12 women all together for a weekend. WOW!

Pattern and FABRIC Review: Simplicity 1622

So its finally finished! What you ask? That darn orange maxi that was giving me the blues. Yes, its finally done! I think it came out ok too. I will never buy that type of material again. I was so upset and mad at JoAnns for even selling such madness
